Chateau des Milandes

A stunning manor house in the commune of Castelnaud-la-Chapelle close to the Chateau de Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, the Chateau des Milandes served as a home for the lords of Caumont who preferred the elegant house and gardens to the cold, war-torn fortress.

Built in 1489, the manor house became home to the American singer and dancer after her rise to the pinnacle of the Parisian cabaret scene in the 1920s. Baker also played a covert role in the French Resistance and is beloved in the area, and France generally; the castle now stands as a dedication to her life. Chateau de Beynac

One of the best known and best-preserved medieval castles in the region, Chateau de Beynac is situated almost precariously in the commune of Beynac-et-Cazenac, in Dordogne.

The castle was initially built in the 12th-century atop sheer cliffs to provide a natural defense; a decision which seems ingenious with the hindsight of the many battles the structure has borne witness since.

While it’s a steep hike to the top, the views of the surrounding towns and valley are certainly worth the effort; include Chateau de Beynac in your private tour itinerary by clicking below.

Collonges-la-Rouge

Proclaimed as ‘The Most Beautiful Village of France’ Collonges-la-Rouge is a must-see for anyone on tour in the area. The village is built almost entirely with distinctive red sandstone – dating back to the 8th century – most of which are still standing today, and attract visitors from across the world.

One of our favorite parts of the village would have to be its traditional fresh marketplaces, offering visitors a glimpse back to a simpler (and in this case prettier) time. Get in touch today to start planning your tour of France by clicking ‘Create My Custom Tour’ below.
