Delve into the heart of Impressionism with a guided tour of Claude Monet’s house in Giverny, a place where art and life beautifully intertwine.

This historic home, where Monet lived for over 40 years, is a vivid testament to his artistic vision and personal taste. As you wander through its rooms, you’re immersed in an environment that is as much a work of art as Monet’s paintings.

The tour begins in the vibrant yellow dining room, where walls adorned with Japanese prints reflect Monet’s love for Eastern art, a significant influence on his work. Moving to the kitchen, you’re captivated by the blue Rouen tiles and copper cookware, showcasing Monet’s attention to color and detail in every aspect of life.

Perhaps the most poignant part of the house is Monet’s first studio, later turned into his smoking room, where he entertained esteemed guests and fellow artists. The space is filled with memorabilia and artwork, offering a personal glimpse into Monet’s world.

The journey continues upstairs to Monet’s private chambers and the second studio, specifically built to house his larger works, including the Water Lilies series. Here, large windows flood the room with natural light, reminiscent of the luminosity in his paintings.

The blend of colors, light, and preserved interiors throughout the house provides an intimate understanding of Monet’s life and artistic process. In this enchanting setting, you truly grasp how Monet’s surroundings influenced his revolutionary approach to art, capturing the ephemeral beauty of nature in his timeless works.

The exploration of Monet’s gardens, a living canvas that inspired many of his masterpieces, is the setting of the famous water lily pond. Here, the iconic Japanese bridge, draped in wisteria, arches gracefully over the water, just as it appears in Monet’s celebrated paintings.

The gardens are a riot of color, with a diverse array of flowers blooming in orchestrated chaos, creating a mosaic of hues that change with the seasons. The interplay of light and shadow across the gardens breathes life into the landscape, illustrating how Monet captured the essence of each moment in his impressionist works.

The tour allows you to experience the gardens not just as a spectator but through the eyes of Monet, understanding how this natural beauty became the muse for his revolutionary art, especially his renowned water lilies series.

The Luxury France Team helped us to design an exceptional itinerary for our trip to France. The entire team was very communicative and responsive, from the initial inquiry to the daily WhatsApp posts during our 13-day stay. They arranged exceptional drivers and tour guides throughout the trip that made it much more enjoyable had we attempted to do it on our own. A shoutout to our main driver Fabrice, Wendy our guide for Paris, Brigitte was our guide for Giverny, Gwenael our guide in Normandy, Stephanie our guide in the Loire Valley, and Oceane in Nice. The accommodations at Hotel Adele & Jules were very nice, really appreciated the Communication Room, a separate room for our adult daughter on a common hallway. We also appreciated the restaurant recommendations and reservations, we enjoyed very nice meals. They helped arranged for wonderful tickets to Roland Garros and the French Open. My wife and I have no hesitation recommending the Luxury France Team...you will not be disappointed.

Auvers-sur-Oise Artist Commune

Château d’Auvers sur Oise, France

After lunch, our journey continues towards Paris with a detour to Auvers-sur-Oise, a village of immense significance in the history of Impressionism.

Throughout the late 19th century, this picturesque commune attracted a host of notable artists drawn by its idyllic landscapes and vibrant rural life.

Vincent van Gogh is the most celebrated of these, but he was far from alone. Impressionists such as Pissarro found inspiration here, and while Cézanne is more closely associated with Provence, he too spent time in Auvers-sur-Oise during the 1870s. Another key figure, Daubigny, made this village his home in the 1860s, deeply influencing the artistic community.

Van Gogh is inexorably linked with Auvers-sur-Oise due to his final months spent there before his tragic death in 1890. During his time in the village, he produced over 70 paintings, including some of his most iconic works such as “The Church at Auvers” and “Wheatfield with Crows.”

Before returning to Paris, your guide will visit Auberge Ravoux, also known as the House of Van Gogh. This is where Vincent van Gogh spent the last 70 days of his life and where he created some of his most famous works. The rooms have been preserved to reflect how they would have looked during Van Gogh’s stay.

Pay your respects at the grave of Vincent van Gogh and his brother Theo, located in the village cemetery. Van Gogh’s simple yet poignant gravestone is a testament to his enduring legacy.

We end your tour with a brief stop for refreshments at the  Ravoux Inn Caféthis is where Van Gogh would often socialize with fellow artists and locals. Enjoy a drink in this historic establishment, soaking in the same ambiance that inspired one of the world’s greatest artists.

An amazing time in Paris and Normandy was had by all thanks to Luxury France Tours.
